[What you'll need]:
- Fabric (soft fabric is recommended)
- Leather oil or cream
[Cleaning schedule]:
Approximately twice a year or when you notice the leather getting dry.
[Cleaning process]:
- Remove surface dirt such as dust from the leather using a soft fabric. If you apply oil with surface dirt still present, it may cause the dirt to adhere to the leather.
- Take a small amount of leather oil. Just as people can have allergies to certain medications, leather can react similarly to different oils. Leather and oil have compatibility, and using an oil that doesn't match well with your leather may lead to discoloration, color fading, or changes in texture. To avoid this, perform a patch test in an inconspicuous area of the leather and observe for a day.
- After the patch test shows no issues, apply the oil thinly and evenly over the entire surface.
- Let it air dry in the shade for approximately 1-2 hours. Once it's dry, use a dry, soft fabric to wipe off any excess oil. Your leather should now be well-maintained. Be cautious as the oil may transfer onto clothing or other items.
[A storage method]:
When storing leather items, avoid direct sunlight, and keep them in a dry, well-ventilated area with low humidity.
Fish leather is created through a tanning process using plant tannin found in plants like tea and persimmons, which transforms the fish skin into leather.
